Donald John Mcleod was the owner of the building when it was opened as a bar, John, as he was known suggested to Bill Jones that he would work with him converting and later running a bar together, Bill had just come back from a trip to London where he had participated in the WWll Victory Parade and that's where the name of Victory bar come from. The first Licence for the Victory Bar was issued to Bill Jones on 14 October 1946, making it the third oldest bar in Stanley. Cyril Betts 1957, Mally Betts 1962, Jimmy Watson 1963, Jimmy Clifton 1964, Chris Jacobsen 1970, Jimmy Jacobsen 1973, Renald Reid 1980, Vivian Perkins 1982 and (me) Ally Jacobsen 1984.
Nobody is sure when the building was erected but it is clearly shown in photographs of the 1878 peat slip.
I have run the Victory with my wife Cathy since moving back to the Falklands in 1984. Now it is more family run than ever, with our daughters Tanzi and Cathy (Jr) working with us on a regular basis.
